These are the terms for buying and using Fifty-Five to Seventy-Five: The California Retirement Rulebook and any job chapter sold from this site. They are short because the product is simple: a PDF you buy once.
A digital book, delivered as a PDF file by email and by a download page, immediately after payment. Nothing is shipped. When the seller publishes an updated edition with the next year's figures, buyers of the current edition receive it by email at no charge. That update is a courtesy the seller intends to keep; it is not a subscription, and there is no recurring charge of any kind.
Job chapters, when offered, are sold the same way, one at a time, and buying one does not require buying the book.
The price shown on the page at the time you buy is the price. Where an introductory price is shown for a stated number of copies, the price rises to the regular price after those copies are sold, as the page says. Prices are in U.S. dollars. California does not charge sales tax on a PDF delivered electronically; if a tax applies where you are, the checkout shows it before you pay.
If the book is not useful to you, email contact@rulesbyage.com within 60 days of purchase and say you want a refund. That is the whole process: no form, no reason required. The refund goes back to the card you paid with, usually within a few business days depending on your bank. You may keep the file. The same 60-day promise applies to job chapters.
The file is for your own use and your household's. You may keep it on any of your devices, print it, and show it to the people you talk to about your own retirement, including a professional you hire. You may not post it, sell it, or send it to a list, and you may not remove the author's name or the sources from it. If a friend would find it useful, the free chapter is on the site and the book is not expensive.
The book is an educational guide to federal and California rules that affect money in the years around retirement. It explains what the rules say, shows the math with examples, and cites the source for every rule. It is written for general readers and is the same for every reader.
It is not tax, legal, investment, or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for a professional who knows your situation. The author is not a licensed tax preparer, attorney, investment adviser, or insurance agent, and nothing in the book or on this site is a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any investment or insurance product, or to take any particular action. The households in the examples are invented. The figures are for the tax year stated on the cover and change when the agencies change them. Before acting on anything in the book, check the rule against the cited source and consider talking to a qualified professional.
Because of that, the seller's responsibility to you is limited to what you paid for the book. The seller is not responsible for a decision you make, or a decision a professional makes for you, after reading it. Some states do not allow every limitation of this kind; where that is so, the limitation applies only as far as the law allows.
Every figure in the book was checked against the primary source named next to it before publication. Rules and figures change. If you find an error, email it; corrections go into the next edition and, if the error is material, to every buyer by email.
The free chapter is free. Requesting it puts you on an email list you can leave with one click. The site's privacy policy says what is collected and what is done with it: privacy policy.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. If something goes wrong, email first; almost everything can be fixed that way. Anything that cannot be is handled in the courts of Los Angeles County, California.
If these terms change, the new version is posted here with a new effective date. The terms that apply to a purchase are the ones posted on the day of that purchase.
